Victoria Quay
Victoria Quay, located at the foot of Johnston Road (Hwy #4) and running parallel to the Somass River, is a beautiful recreational site. Flanked by two towering Welcome Figures carved by the Hupačasath First Nation, thoughtfully positioned with one facing the water and the other the land, symbolizing a greeting to visitors from both avenues. The nearby Welcome Centre, houses prominent Indigenous artwork and offers insights into the land and its peoples. In addition, the boardwalk along the river provides easy access to the scenic Kitsuksis Dyke Walk and nearby dog park. The area is also known for bear watching during low tide.
Harbour Quay
The Harbour Quay area is a vibrant hub where colorful waterfront shops, galleries, and eateries come together. Central to this lively scene is the impressive Clock Tower, which offers panoramic views of the Alberni Inlet. Not only is the Quay a commercial and social focal point, but it also hosts the Port Alberni Aquarium, operated by the West Coast Aquatics and Stewardship Society. Extending the experience further is the 400-foot Centennial Pier, stretching out into the harbor, providing even more spectacular views and a perfect vantage point to soak in the maritime atmosphere.
Alberni Valley Museum

Sproat Lake
Sproat Lake Park, nestled in the heart of the Alberni Valley on central Vancouver Island, is a paradise for freshwater adventure seekers. Just 15 minutes west of Port Alberni, this beloved spot is perfect for a variety of activities including swimming, fishing, waterskiing, and windsurfing. The park is crisscrossed with a variety of short access trails that offer scenic routes around the area. One of these trails leads to the eastern end of Sproat Lake, located in the Hupačasath Territory, home to K’ak’awin—one of the finest panels of petroglyphs in British Columbia.
Stamp Falls
Stamp River Park offers a peaceful escape by the riverside, complete with a picturesque waterfall. Explore the lush surroundings via hiking trails or enjoy the spectacle of the annual Pacific salmon run starting in late August. The salmon journey up the fish ladders at Stamp Falls, attracting both visitors and local black bears. While fishing within the park is prohibited, the river is a popular spot for anglers and serves as a gateway to the Pacific Rim. Remember to observe safety precautions in this wilderness area.

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
Situated along the west coast of Vancouver Island within the traditional territories of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is a breathtaking expanse of long sandy beaches and pristine temperate rainforests. This park offers a range of adventures that cater to explorers of all kinds. Steeped in Nuu-chah-nulth culture, it serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the west coast. Visitors can enjoy everything from interpretive walks to challenging hikes along the legendary West Coast Trail. The ʔapsčiik t̓ašii multi-use pathway, extending 25 km from the southern to the northern boundary of the Long Beach Unit, enhances accessibility and exploration opportunities throughout the area. Please note that a seasonal dog ban is in effect from April 1 to October 1 each year to help preserve the natural environment.
Tofino
Tofino is where the mighty Pacific Ocean meets expansive sandy beaches, creating a stunning backdrop for any visitor. This area, nestled within the Traditional Territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, is part of the breathtaking Clayoquot Sound's protected ecosystem, celebrated for its rich biodiversity. Tofino boasts an acclaimed food scene that tantalizes the taste buds and a vibrant coastal arts community that inspires creativity.
Della Falls
Located in the heart of Central Vancouver Island within Strathcona Provincial Park, Della Falls, located on the traditional and unceded Territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, is a remarkable destination, home to one of the tallest waterfalls in Canada. The trail to Della Falls stretches over 32 km through diverse terrains, including rainforest, valleys, and subalpine environments, making it suitable for intermediate backpackers. The journey typically takes three days, depending on fitness levels and route planning, and is best tackled from June to October before the trail becomes snow-covered.
No permits or fees are required to hike to Della Falls, but reservations are necessary for the Della Falls Water Taxi. Pets are welcome but must be leashed and controlled at all times.
