    How to Get to Port Alberni

    By Land

    Port Alberni, BC, is located 50 kilometers west of Parksville and 121 kilometers northwest of Victoria, accessible via Highway 4 on Vancouver Island.

    From Victoria, head north on the Island Highway for just over 100 kilometers, bypassing the Nanaimo turnoff to continue on the Island Highway.

    Then, take the Highway 4 West exit towards Port Alberni, and in about thirty minutes, you'll enter Port Alberni along Johnston Road.

    If traveling from Vancouver, start with a 95-minute BC Ferries trip from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo's Departure Bay Terminal.

    From there, join the Island Highway northbound to the Highway 4 exit to reach Port Alberni.

    Finding us on Highway 4: we're on the west side of Port Alberni - the last accommodation in town before Sproat Lake and the west coast. Look for the Chims Cabins sign at 6880 Pacific Rim Highway; the cabins sit back off the road behind the trees, so the sign arrives before the buildings do.

    Coming from Nanaimo, Parksville or the ferry (heading west toward Tofino): continue on Highway 4 west through Port Alberni. We're on your left, about 50 km past Parksville - take the left-hand turn into 6880 Pacific Rim Highway.

    Coming from Tofino, Ucluelet or Sproat Lake (heading east back into town): we're on your right at 6880 Pacific Rim Highway, just before you reach the city centre.

    Traffic moves at highway speed and can be steady on summer afternoons. If you're not comfortable making the turn from either direction, continue about 2 minutes to the Tseshaht Market gas station, turn around safely there, and approach again from the correct side. Parking is free, with a dedicated spot at every cabin.

    Check-in & check-out: check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM (grace period to 11:15 AM). We do our best to accommodate early check-in depending on cleaning availability - call ahead. Arriving late or not sure of your time? Text (250) 724-4746 and we'll make sure you can get in.

    Alberni Valley Regional Airport (CBS8)
    Port Alberni's regional airport serves charter flights only - no scheduled service. Nearest commercial airports: Comox or Nanaimo. The airport's own address is 7400 Airport Rd, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 8Y9.

    Chims Cabins is the closest accommodation to CBS8 - just 7.5 km, or an 8-minute drive, away - and we can sometimes arrange a pickup. Ask when you book.

    Nanaimo Airport (YCD) is the nearest commercial airport, with daily flights by Jazz Air, a division of Air Canada.
