A two-night trip and a six-week contract are different problems.
For a night or two, a clean bed is enough. But when you’re here on a project, a placement or a posting, the things that didn’t matter start to matter. Somewhere to cook a proper meal. Somewhere to do your washing. Your own door, and enough space to unpack properly instead of working out of a suitcase.
Chims Cabins is set up for exactly that kind of stay. These are detached, self-contained cabins — private entrance, private deck, full kitchen, dedicated parking at the door. Guests on work contracts stay with us for weeks at a time, and the property is built so that a working stay is comfortable rather than an endurance test.
Who stays with us
Work crews and contractors
We’re on Highway 4 on the west side of Port Alberni, five to ten minutes from the city centre and from most valley job sites. Dedicated parking comes with each cabin and we can usually arrange more for a second vehicle. Crews book several cabins at once — everyone gets their own space, their own kitchen and their own door.
Travel nurses and healthcare staff
West Coast General Hospital is a short drive away. A contract placement is a demanding stretch of work, and a self-contained cabin with a kitchen, laundry and a private entrance makes it a great deal easier. We offer specific rates for travel nurses — call or note it when you book direct, as these rates aren’t available through the booking platforms.
BC Government and provincial staff
Preferred rates are available to Government of BC employees travelling for work, on presentation of valid ID, when booking directly with us.
Business and corporate travel
Whether it’s a few nights or a few weeks, we specialise in corporate stays and can invoice properly rather than making you expense a holiday-rental receipt.
The cabins
There are six self-contained cabins — Bear, Wolf, Butterfly, Hummingbird, Eagle and Raven — sleeping one to five guests depending on the unit. They differ in size, layout and amenities, and every detail is listed cabin by cabin on the Accommodations page.
What actually matters on a working stay
- Full-size kitchens. Not a kettle and a bar fridge — a real kitchen with a full-size fridge, a cooktop and an oven. Cook what you want, when you want, and stop spending your per diem on restaurants.
- Laundry on site. Some cabins have a washer and dryer in the unit; there’s a dedicated guest laundry room for the rest. Either way you’re not spending your day off at a laundromat.
- Private entrance and private deck. No corridors, no shared lobby, nobody through the wall.
- Dedicated parking — one spot per cabin, additional parking available on request.
- Free Rogers Business Wi-Fi and TV.
- Heat pumps with A/C — warm in February, cool in July.
- Built to be quiet. Triple-glazed windows, trees around the property, and a fan in every unit for white noise. Shift workers sleep here during the day.
- Housekeeping and a host on site. Naomi is here, answers the phone, and sorts things out when they need sorting.
- Pet-free property — clean and allergy-conscious.

For a working stay, the roomiest unit is the Bear Cabin — our largest, sleeping up to five (a queen plus a pull-out couch and cot). The Wolf Cabin sleeps four, and when a crew needs separate beds the Butterfly Cabin (queen plus two twins) is ideal, with the Eagle and Raven cabins (queen plus a double) also sleeping four. Rates — call us, don’t use the booking form
We offer nightly and weekly rates, and longer bookings are quoted directly.
- Corporate rates — a percentage discount for business travel
- BC Provincial Government rates — valid ID required
- Travel nurse rates — for contract placements
None of these rates appear online. They aren’t on Airbnb, they aren’t on Booking.com, and the booking form won’t show them to you. They’re only available by booking direct — so call or text and we’ll quote you properly.
It’s also worth calling even if the calendar looks full. Cabins are sometimes available that aren’t showing online, and if an event is on in town there may be a room block in place.
